Our first post:Cincinnati

So, the Raymey and Kelly Walther family is trying to catch up to the year 2008. Someone invited me (Kelly) to facebook today (which I didn't even know about) and I realized that there is this whole cyber world that I didn't even know about, or hadn't taken the time to look at. We are going to try to blog and see how that works out.
We went to Cincinnati this weekend to check out apartments that we may stay in this summer. When we left on Friday morning we had no idea that we were heading into Ohio's snowstorm of the decade. We heard there was snow, but since we have both lived in Utah, and I'm from Colorado, we weren't too worried. We had already paid for the hotel and rental car. On Friday, what should have been a 4.5 hour drive turned into a 6+ hour trip. At one point we were dead stopped on the freeway for over an hour. Madeline finally convinced us (babies can be so persuasive) to turn off the car and let her our of her carseat. I think that was her favorite part of the trip! We had appointments to see 7 apartments this weekend, and all cancelled but 2. We wanted to see some of the sights, but everything was closed. I'm still not sure that anyone lives in Cincinnati. It was like a ghost town.
So, the highlights of our trip were-- going to Famous Dave's BBQ (Madeline got to hold the rib bones and throw them on the floor), trying Cincinnati chili (which isn't at all what we think of as chili, but is still pretty good), Madeline crying when a guy at a pizza place waved at her (she kept turning around in her high chair to stare at him but when he said hi she freaked out and started shrieking!), seeing one good apartment (the other one was scary), and building a Monk-style cage around Madeline at our hotel (I couldn't let her crawl on the nasty floor, eat weird things, and stick her fingers in electrical sockets, so we got a huge sheet, put it down, and put our bags and chairs around her so she couldn't get off of the sheet. She liked it unless we walked out of it. It should be easier when she can walk-I don't plan on making baby cages forever.)
Oh yeah, to top off our stay in Cincinnati, we got up and drove to the LDS church this morning to find that it had been cancelled due to the snow which was already melted. So, our weekend was a little bit like the old movie "The Last Man on Earth". The houses and stores were there, but we just couldn't find people! How are you supposed to end a blog? The End.

Sorry we didn't get together in Cincinnati this weekend! (Church was canceled here too, and J. was sick, so it's good we didn't try to come) Let's definitely go camping this summer!

Okay, after this travel log, I guess I won't put Cincinati on my list of places that I just have to go and see! It is probably better when there is no snow!! Love the pictures of Madeline!! She is a doll.
